National Teacher Workshops    (Forum day and Workshop day
      by Francine Berrett

If you are a beginner or intermediate quilter then these workshops are just right for you!

When you make a quilt do you ever wonder if the quilt is really done? Do you think you are through or are you enjoying yourself and wish you could do more? What about the backs that you put on your quilts? Are they just so-so? Come to the free forum (free for members of the UVQG only) on Wednesday, April 18th with our National Teacher, Sharon Wright. She will walk us through the process of making fun, creative, and attractive backs out of leftover fabrics.

Then on Thursday, April 19th we will be having an all day workshop with Sharon. In this workshop, Sharon will be helping us learn how to make our quilts a little more exciting! The following are examples of what we will be learning: writing on your quilt, piping, cording, satin stitch appliqué, double binding, fancy edging, Celtic appliqué, and how to take elements from one pattern and add them to your pattern, plus more. Bring an orphan block, an unfinished medallion, or an unfinished quilt top and go home with lots of ideas on how to make these unfinished items into works of art.

The cost for this workshop will be $30 per person and will be available on a first come first serve basis. There is a maximum of 35 openings in this workshop. Sign up with Francine on Service Day or at our March Meeting. The cost includes the packet of information. We will be serving a pot luck lunch.

Service Notes:
Don’t forget your tote bags!! We’re still collecting tote bags for the Women's Crisis Center. They send craft projects home with the women who come to the shelter, so if you have any tote bags that you can part with, please bring them to the April Quilt Guild Meeting or give them to any UVQG board member.
We will have ongoing simple kits available at every quilt guild meeting this year (except July
Fair) that you can check out, complete and turn back in. Look for the Service table near
the sign-in tables at the back of the meeting hall each month. We also have a thank-you gift
for everyone who completes a kit.
Thanks again for your great service!

CHALLENGE PROJECT

The Challenge…By Kristine Palmer

I have a few different challenges coming this year.

The one I am most excited about is working with the “Quilts Of Valor” (QOV). (I am one of the lucky ones to have both of my Nephews make it home un-harmed, but there are many that are not that lucky). So we will be trying to work on this challenge all year long.

There are many ways to help out with this challenge…. Making a block or two, piece a quilt top, quilting for someone, or making the whole quilt. There are also presentation bags (pillowcases) that need to be made. All quilts will need to be labeled and have a journal with them too. Anything you can do will help.
Look for more information and details at the January meeting and here on the website. So please start those creative ideas churning and help us donate to our Heroes in the Armed Forces.

News from the Utah Quilt Guild
Quilt Fest was a great success this year.  Thanks to all who attended and donated items.  Hope to see you next year in St. George.
