Quilting Bees

2012 Beekeeper – Rebecca Hansen  801 756-5536

Quilting Bees are smaller quilting groups that meet together. Some have monthly programs, some sew together weekly. They can be a great way to get to know more people within a smaller setting. Bees can be a great source of help, inspiration, and social interaction within the quilting community. If you are interested in finding a bee to join, starting a bee in your area, or adding your group to this list, please contact our beekeeper.

We appreciate the involvement of local bee groups in our guild! We currently offer a stipend of $150, given to qualifying bees in November. The main purpose for this money is to reimburse bees for the costs of materials and quilting for their auction donation.

Stipend Requirements

1. Donate an item for the July Quilt Fair Auction.

This is usually a quilt. Some larger groups have each of their members make one block and then combine them in a quilt. Other groups have a few members in charge of their quilt. The money raised from the auction supports guild expenses and activities. (We appreciate all the donations for the auction; however if you are donating an item for the purpose of stipend qualification, the item should be something that people would want to spend minimum of $150. Most of these quilts typically go for $200-$500.)

2. Help with the July Quilt Fair.

This is our biggest event of the year. Volunteer to be in charge of and staff a certain area (i.e. garage sale, bake sale, classes, auction quilts, publicity). If you have a really small bee, you can join with another bee or recruit helpers from the general UVQG membership who may not belong to a bee.

3. Provide Service

If possible, we hope that many of your members will be able to participate in our February Service Day. For 2011, we want to continue some of the projects throughout the year, so you could work on the project at one of your own meetings. Or choose your own quilting related service project.  Ideas:  Submit an article to the monthly Newsletter; outreach in the community; as a group, teach a mini class at guilt meeting.

4. Have 50% of Bee members enrolled in Utah Valley Quilt Guild
