42nd Annual Utah Quilt Show

 

Last Call for Entries - by Shirley Olsen

             The Springville Quilt Show is almost here.  Make sure that one or two of your quilts are part of the show!  Online entry forms are available at www.smofa.org.  This form needs to be filled out online before bringing your quilt to the museum.
 

Remember to follow the instructions for the special hanging sleeve for this show— without it your quilt cannot be accepted.  Please read the entry requirements and specifications on the website.  The information is found under Upcoming Exhibitions, 42nd Annual Quilt Show. 

Entries may be brought to the museum, 126 E. 400 S, Springville on July 10th or 11th from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  If you want to enter and these times will not work for you, contact me at 801-224-3022 or the Springville Museum of Art, 801-489-2727 and ask for Jessica to make earlier arrangements.  Quilts selected to hang will be on display to the public from July 18th through August 30th.

Show winners will be announced at the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony, Saturday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m.  There will be many prizes including Best of Show, Best Hand Quilting, the Art Director's Award, Awards of Excellence, and Judge's Choice.  There will also be an award for the best quilt entered by a quilter who has never entered before. 

 This year's trunk shows at the museum features 11 quilters and their quilts.

                     The museum is closed on Mondays; extended hours on Wednesday.

UVQG's 14th Annual Fall Retreat--

    November 4-7, 2015 -- Zermatt Resort in Midway

This year's theme is ....

                BEACH PARTY

Beach Party -Registration begins April 15, 2015 at our annual Service Day. $75 deposit required with registration. Open to 100 participants. Must be a member of Utah Valley Quilt Guild. New: Sign up for the location of your retreat sewing table when you register!

The party begins Wednesday, November 4, at 10am in the Bernese Center with info, intros, and prize drawings.
(The room will be open earlier to bring in your equipment and setup.)

 Of course the following are optional, but you may participate in any of these:  

  • Bring a pincushion to participate in the pin cushion exchange.

  • Bring a beach themed quilt to hang.

  • Bring a show and tell quilt for the "Quilt Walk."

  • Read the book "Aloha" by Jennifer Chiavarini to participate in the discussion about Hawaii and Hawaiian appliqué.

  • Bring a few dollars for tips if you would like help getting your stuff into the building.

  • Bring your own projects to work on as there will be a lot of sewing time.

  • Each hotel room has a refrigerator and microwave. No breakfasts will be provided.

The following are optional projects. Bring your own supplies or order a kit. (classes are free)

Book Wrap Kit $9—This class includes the book discussion "Aloha" by J. Chiaverini. The discussion will focus on Hawaii and Hawaiian Appliqué. 2 fat quarters 1/3 yard coordinating fabric batting

Hawaiian Appliqué Kit $10 (Die and cutter will be available for you at retreat) 16" square for design 20" squares for background 1/2 yd heat and bond lite - iron the heat and bond to the back of the 16" square

Pinecone Kit $5 —specify color you want 1 styrofoam egg, size 2 5 /16 x 3 1/16 (45) 2" squares, I used 2 similar colors. 100 sequin pins 1/4 " wire ribbon, optional decorative picks, glue guns will be available for your use

Beach Towel Backpack Kit $15—Remember Quillows? This is the same idea; the towel stuffs into the attached backpack 1.5 beach towels & 4.5 feet of drawstring.

Flip Flop Pillow Kit $15 1/3 yd pillow top and bottom fiberfill and Frixion pen 3/8 yd contrasting band and thong, thread to match 1/3 yard thin batting 5/8 yd 1" wide belting

Flip Flop Table Runner Kit $15 (3)10" squares 1/3 yard for border 1/2 yard back not included 13" x WOF background 1 yard heat and bond lite

Categories in 2015 were: Art, Appliqued, Embroidered, Mixed Medium, Modern, Newbie (for those who have never entered a quilt in a show before),Pieced, and Whole Cloth 

You do not need to be an expert quilter to enter this show!! 

If you are a resident of Utah Valley you may enter a quilt or quilts!
If you are a member of Utah Valley Quilt Guild you may enter a quilt or quilts!
(Either one qualifies you.)

Entry is $5 per quilt. (Quilts cannot have won a prize at any other quilt show.) 


Quilt Entries for 2016 can be dropped off PRIOR to April 9th at Gracie Lou's (Salem), Stitching Corner (Orem), American Quilting (Orem), and The Sewing Basket (American Fork).  You may also drop them off at Darcia Pinette's home by April 11. Quilts will be hung on the 12th and judged on the 13th. We would appreciate help hanging quilts on April 12th and taking them down after 6 pm on April 16th.
