President's Message - by RevaBeth
Dear Quilters, This is an exciting announcement -- Lisa Johnson has accepted the position of President Elect for this year. I did a happy dance that you are all grateful not to have witnessed. I’m so excited to have her on the board in this position. She is an amazing person.
I was so pleased to hear that Service Day went well. 118 quilts were finished to donate and that doesn’t count the ones that were taken home to be finished and brought in later. Fantastic.
My tag line for my email used to be “The good I do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.” It came from Mother Teresa and I found it helpful on days when I was so tired and felt I could not go on. Yet, I had made the decision to do good and so I would, no matter if anyone cared, saw, or ever thanked me. That is how I feel about you. You did good for babies that will never know that you spent a day helping a new stranger in this world. For them, I thank you.

2020 Challenge announced at the January's meeting.
"Scrappy Stash Quilt"
The challenge this year is to make a quilt entirely from scraps (except the batting may be purchased). Everything else must come from your stash, including the backing!
(You can make a scrappy back or trade fabrics with a friend.)
Several quilts and ideas for scrap quilts were shown at the January 15 guild meeting. Challenge quilts will be displayed at the November 2020 meeting.
2020 FAIR is CANCELLED
My name is Lacey Peterson. I joined the UVQG toward the end of last year. I love the environment and the talent that everyone shares. I’m thrilled to part of this guild. I have accepted the responsibility to coordinate this year’s July Fair. It is coming up on July 15th. I am excited to be part of this and will do my best, however, I need help. LOTS of help. I’ve never headed anything like this up before, so I’m relying on our experienced members to help create a successful event we’ll all enjoy.
In January, RevaBeth passed around a sign-up sheet. A few people signed up to help. Thank You!! While the guild doesn’t meet again till March, we need to start planning before then. If you are willing to help—help with anything at all—please text, call, or email me or look me up on Facebook. (801) 930-5564 or Facebook.com/Quilterpated
We still need Chair People for some of the following committees. There are several categories to make things easy for each committee: Advertising / Classes / Yard Sale / Vendors / Silent Auction / Food Trucks / Quilt Show / Decorating / Bake Sale.
Please sign up, I can’t wait to meet you, and work with you. We need your help to create a successful event. Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you.

Contact Elise to register for this workshop.
Karin is a gifted quilter with many innovative techniques to teach us. She is also a gifted teacher. After she taught at quilt festival I heard so many good comments about her class. I have also been present in one of her classes and learned a lot. We are grateful to have her and learn from her
Once the class is full, we will start a waiting list in case someone is unable to attend the class and would like to give up their seat. As per the bylaws we do not issue refunds once someone has signed up. However, we may use a waiting list and make a change, and have that person pay the student if she is unable to attend. As per our bylaws, we must first use the waiting list and then if no one is available a class member may sell their spot to anyone else.
August pincushion by Midway Wool
The photo above is of the finished pincushion taught at our August meeting. If you purchased a kit and ran out of blue thread while whip stitching your blue wool flower, Elise will have some at retreat and at the November meeting. Please bring your pincushion with you.
Cell Phone Etiquette
Please turn your cell phones off or put on vibrate during our guild meetings. If it must be on and it could bother others, use the “silent” mode and move away to talk.
UVQG January Program
Orem Senior Center
January 15, 2020 - 1:30 pm
We are so (sew) excited to start a new year! Here we go 2020!!! Our January program will include some very interesting and enjoyable people and projects.
First, our past president, Elise Larsen will present a trunk show of her quilts. She has lots of lovely quilts and her they speak to her fun personality. It will be delightful to hear from her as she shares a bit about her quilting journey. We are so appreciative of all the work and time she has volunteered to our guild.
Each month throughout the coming year we will have an "Organization" spot by Kathy Porter and a "Tips and Tools" demonstration by Alysa Lovell. They are amazing ladies and full of great ideas. You won't want to miss!

Words of Wisdom
My favorite quote from Brenda Sommers is: “If you are a new quilter, or a quilter with shaky confidence – keep quilting!!!! You will get better, I am a much better quilter than when I started ...” Isn’t this where we all are? Loving what we do and getting better and better at it each day.
