UVQG July

Quilt Fair

2020 FAIR is CANCELLED

If things go back to a new normal we already have the location for the 2021 July Fair.

We need an overall chairperson and then volunteers for the various committees:

Advertising / Classes / Yard Sale / Vendors / Silent Auction / Food Trucks / Quilt Show / Decorating / Bake Sale.

March Meeting:

  Service Day!

Wed, Mar 17, 2021

We will have a few locations available for you to meet together in small groups to work together on charity quilts or you can help from the comfort of your own home.

Sarah Yorgason is our service chair this year. We are in the process of setting up a spreadsheet where you can let her know if you have items to donate, or need materials. Please let her know if you want to sponsor hosting one of the group meetings.

We also hope to meet and share via zoom at some point in the afternoon.

Sarah's article in Feb newsletter:

I am so excited to help focus our service efforts for the guild this year! I spent much of last year going through my sewing room and sending stuff to other places where it can be better used. Throughout the year I will spotlight a new organization and ways we can help with projects or with supply donations.

We will continue to help with the Baby your Baby project. They currently have only a two month supply of baby blankets!

For now, can you please go through your sewing spaces and find any unfinished service projects from the guild and work on them? If you are no longer able to commit time to those projects, let me know and I will come get them so someone else can finish them up.

I know many of you also organize and clear out your spaces at the beginning of the year. I am happy to come get your unwanted sewing supplies. You can text me for my address if you would rather bring them yourself.

Each month I will feature a pattern that will be suitable for a donation quilt. If you have a favorite charity quilt pattern, send me the information so I can share it. Sarah.yorgason@gmail.com 435-315-7632

Workshop April ??, 2021

(Elise Larsen's home Orem)

for those registered (limit 20) full, but can contact Elise for wait list

The class will start in the morning at 9:00 and end in the afternoon at 4:00 with an hour break for lunch (bring your own). You must pay at the time of sign up to be enrolled in the class. Cost is $35.00.

Contact Elise to register for this workshop.

Karin is a gifted quilter with many innovative techniques to teach us. She is also a gifted teacher. After she taught at quilt festival I heard so many good comments about her class. I have also been present in one of her classes and learned a lot. We are grateful to have her and learn from her

Once the class is full, we will start a waiting list in case someone is unable to attend the class and would like to give up their seat. As per the bylaws we do not issue refunds once someone has signed up. However, we may use a waiting list and make a change, and have that person pay the student if she is unable to attend. As per our bylaws, we must first use the waiting list and then if no one is available a class member may sell their spot to anyone else.

2020 Challenge announced at the January's meeting.

"Scrappy Stash Quilt"

The challenge this year is to make a quilt entirely from scraps (except the batting may be purchased). Everything else must come from your stash, including the backing!

(You can make a scrappy back or trade fabrics with a friend.)

Several quilts and ideas for scrap quilts were shown at the January 15 guild meeting. Challenge quilts will be displayed at the November 2020 meeting.

Words of Wisdom

My favorite quote from Brenda Sommers is: If you are a new quilter, or a quilter with shaky confidence – keep quilting!!!! You will get better, I am a much better quilter than when I started ...” Isn’t this where we all are? Loving what we do and getting better and better at it each day.
