Non - Cotton Quilts
UVQG Guild Meeting
Wed, May 15th, 1:30
Orem Senior Friendship Center
My English major heart was drawn to this quote by Emily Brontë, poet and author of Wuthering Heights, “May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.” As I pull out my unfinished quilt tops, stacks of uncut fabric, and other projects in varying degrees of completion (my friend calls this her “closet of shame”) I can choose to get overwhelmed and discouraged, or I can see them through my “May” eyes, with expectation, wishes and hope. So many possibilities, so little time. I hope that you are getting excited about all the possibilities of quilt progress as the lazy days of summer approach.
Speaking of expectations, I’m really looking forward to our guest speaker in May. The talented Sharon Wright will be coming to teach us about working with non-cotton fabrics in a quilt. She has made some amazing quilts from wool as well as from silk ties and we will see her creative use of pattern and color.
She is encouraging all of us to bring quilts that we have made from reclaimed fabric to show during her presentation. Prepare to be inspired.
- Kim McCloskey
More details: Sharon will be showing a collection of quilts made from repurposed wool and neckties. The wool quilts (14 in total) were made from skirts, jackets, slacks and yardage saved over the past 25 years. The necktie quilts (8 total) include ties from Mike Runge (a sportscaster) and President Thomas S. Monson. Please bring a quilt that you have made from repurposed fabrics to show

Garage Sale Items Wanted!
Spring is almost here and it is time to do a bit of Spring Cleaning of your STASH. If you haven't used it in five years, please consider donating your fabrics or quilting notions to the Utah Valley Quilt Guild July Fair Garage Sale. It is our fun day of adventure and wonder, so donate your "stuff" to the Guild and lighten your load.
Pin a note saying how much you think it is worth, bring it to a Guild meeting for me to pick it up, or call me to get it from you. Or you can deliver it to my house. Thanks so much for your support of the Guild fund-raising event.
